Overview » The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme provides students with an opportunity to participate in a course of study that emphasizes critical thinking skills, research skills, internationalism, the application of knowledge, intercultural understanding, and interdisciplinary learning. » The IB Diploma Programme has been in existence for over 40 years and the IB curriculum is offered to students in over 141 countries around the world. » The IB Diploma Programme is well recognized by many universities around the world. » Students participate in the IB Diploma Programme during the last two years of high school (11th and 12th grade). There are scheduling recommendations and considerations for students in the 9th and 10th grade who are interested in participating in the program such as completing your Health and PE requirements. » Students participating in the IB Diploma Programme take IB courses in six subject groups including: Group 1. Language A1 (English) Group 2. Second Language Group 3. Individual and Societies (Social Studies) Group 4. Experimental Sciences Group 5. Mathematics Group 6. The Arts and Electives » In addition to taking courses in the six subject areas, students in the IB Diploma Programme complete other components that are unique to the Programme. These components include: taking a Theory of Knowledge course, completing an extended essay on a topic of interest, and taking part in learning activities outside of the classroom in a component of the programme known as CAS – Creativity, Action, Service. » There are two levels of IB courses – higher level and standard level. To earn the International Baccalaureate Diploma, students are required to complete at least three of their IB courses (not more than four courses) at the higher level and the remainder of their IB courses at the standard level. » Students have prescribed IB assessments in their IB courses and earn a score in each IB course from 1 to 7. A student must earn a minimum cumulative score in their courses, and have required scores in accordance with the prescribed rules set by the International Baccalaureate Organization, to be awarded the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
