Army ROTC

Army ROTC is one of the best leadership courses in the country and produces 60% of all Army officers; the prestigious professionals who serve as the leaders and managers of this nation's Army. It is designed as a college elective program that provides you with a wide range of experiences as you work toward your degree, combining military science classes with hands-on leadership experience and skills that are sure to give you an edge over your peers in the job market. Scholarship opportunities are available for juniors and seniors.

Getting Started in the College Process

“Getting Started in the College Selection Process” will offer college search and selection strategies on Feb. 28th at 7 pm in the Dublin Scioto High School Marina Davis Performing Arts Center. It is intended for parents of Juniors, although Freshmen and Sophomore parents are also encouraged to attend. Topics will include researching colleges, understanding college testing, understanding admission factors, investigating campus security, and making the most of college visitations.

Ohio Business Week

Ohio Business Week is a weeklong summer opportunity for HS students to gain valuable hands-on experience with business & entrepreneurship in a unique college setting. It will be held at Youngstown State Univ. June 24-30 and Ohio Dominican University July 8-14. Application deadline is April 30 . If you apply before Feb. 29 you will receive $50 off the $350 commitment fee. Applications are available at www.ohiobusinessweek.org

Tolles Career and Technical Center

Students have the opportunity to prepare for career and college through its partnership with Tolles Career & Technical Center. An extension of Scioto, students can get a head start on their chosen career path and college education by participating in two years of interactive, inquiry-based education at Tolles. Mrs. Gail Bennett is the Tolles representative and in the Fall she provided all 10th graders with information about Tolles and will offered them an opportunity to visit Tolles. Angeli Award Fellowship

The Children’s Defense Fund-Ohio (CDF-Ohio) is excited to form a partnership with the Angeli Award to provide a local fellowship opportunity to a graduating senior at Dublin Scioto High School. Since 2006, the Angeli Award Scholarship has been awarded to a qualified Dublin Scioto High School student in the hopes of encouraging graduates to offer their hard work and dedication through education to benefit their peers, families, and community. Through this partnership, one fellowship will be awarded to a Dublin Scioto High School graduating senior to work with CDF-Ohio during the summer of 2012. The recipient of this fellowship will have many duties including administration and project management, and will play an important role in helping to prepare for the Children’s Defense Fund’s national meeting which is being held on July 23-25 in Cincinnati, Ohio. This fellowship will begin on June 11, 2012 and last until August 12, 2012 and will require a time commitment of approximately 15 hours per week. Selection criteria will be based on the student’s response to the required essay, prior administrative or project management experience, scholastic achievement, and previous community engagement experience. Those students who are selected, based on these criteria, will be invited to interview. Please see Mrs. Hall or the guidance secretaries for an application which is due before Feb. 15, 2012. FAFSA INFORMATIONAL SESSIONS

“FAFSA Workshop” will be held January 4th at 7:00 PM Dublin Coffman High School. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a required form that parents must complete in order to be eligible for financial aid. A line by line explanation of this form will be presented. If a family has questions about completing the FAFSA, this is a must meeting. (Snow Date is January 5). CRITERIA FOR HONORS DIPLOMA

Criteria for the Honors Diploma Please take note of the following clarification of the criteria necessary to graduate with a Diploma with Honors. You must fulfill all but one of the following criteria. HONORS DIPLOMA English 4 credits Mathematics4 credits Science 4 credits (including Physics & Chemistry) Social Studies 4 credits Foreign Language 3 credits Fine Arts 1 credit Grade Point Average 3.5 on 4.0 scale ACT or SAT score (excluding writing score) 27 ACT or 1210 SAT * Please note that Physical Science does not fulfill the “Physics” requirement but would count as one Science credit towards the four credits needed for the Honors Diploma. Any of the following courses, Physics, AP Physics, or IB Physics SL, would fulfill the “Physics” requirement. * Please see your School Counselor with any questions.

Mechanisms of Human Health & Disease Summer program

Current Juniors and other students who have taken biology and chemistry will be considered. Purpose is to provide motivated and high-achieving high school science students to college level curriculum for medical and biomedical research careers. Nationwide Childrens hospital will accept 20 students Summer class is from June 18-August 1 from 5:30-9 pm Monday & Thursdays. Cost is $100 limited partial scholarships available.
